Tattoo artist Takeko keeps a framed design of the
spider lily flower on the wall of her parlor. The
design was literally cut from the flesh of her father,
after he was crushed to death in an earthquake. The
image of the spider lily tattoo is the last cohesive
memory of Takeko’s traumatized brother, Ching, who
is no longer able to recognize anyone, including his
sister.

“Nyonya's Taste of Life” - stories of Indonesian
domestic helpers and Thai workers who came to Taiwan
dreaming of a better life. Just like “Nyonya Cuisine,”
which has a complex flavor combining sour, spicy,
and sweet, the film is filled with misunderstandings,
conflicts, miscommunications, and reconciliation（or
estrangement）among ethnic Chinese, Indonesians, and
Thais.

Ya-hui is a hairdresser’s assistant. One day a
chubby girl with naturally curly hair arrives at the
salon, asking for a straight perm. Before long Ya-hui
realizes, with a start, that this girl is actually
her close friend Yi-ting Huang from Junior High. A
bitter sweet reunion story.

“City of Memories” is the third documentary in
the tetralogy “The Realm of Womenhood,” after “Where
is My Home?” and “The Ballads of Grandmothers.” The
film depicts the lives of elder people living in a
nursing home: their agony, longing and loneliness.
Images of wintry Taipei, with its drizzling rain,
and the gloomy sky reflect fading minds these aged
women.

A competition was taking place among animals fighting
for a place in the “Chinese Zodiac”. From dawn to
dusk, all the animals tried hard to show their abilities
and personalities in hopes of becoming one of the
representatives. However, the cat was left out because
it was sleeping. When it roused suddenly from sleep
and grasped the situation, the competition was already
over.

位於台北市陽明山上的平等國小是所只有百來位學生的迷你小學，於1988年創立巧宛然掌中劇團，享譽國內外。祖籍西藏拉薩的土登悅生轉學來到平等國小，花費三年勤練基本功與操偶技巧，終於克服不會說台語的障礙與挫折，成為難得一見的女頭手。本片是她的童年時光中，一段充滿挫折、成就、憤怒、抱怨、淚水和歡笑的快樂回憶。
“Chiao Wan Jan”, the children’s hand puppet troupe
established in 1988, is located in the Ping-Deng Elementary
School. Tu-Deng Yueh-Sheng is a Tibetan girl who spent
three years practicing and overcoming language barrier.
Now she is on stage as female puppeteer.

Deeply missing her mother-in-law, in "After
Passing", the director of "Passing Through
My Mother-in-law's Village" reports to her deceased
mother-in-law the changes in Liu Ts'o Village caused
by the Taichung-Changhua Expressway. Liu Ts'o villagers
quickly adapt to the changes, and undertake all kinds
of activities under the overpass.
